Juanita Gutierrez
Juanita began as a self-taught artist and much of what she has learned has come from interaction and observation of other artists. She loves attending workshops that enhance her knowledge of techniques. Often you can find her with a group of other artists exploring and sharing interactive methods.
Juanita primarily works with water-based products on paper. She is intrigued by the surface and textures that can be developed on paper. She attempts painting with the feeling of motion in much of her work. Also the human face and figure is always a favorite of hers. The creative process has always fascinated Juanita. Therefore, painting has opened up a new avenue for her. She says she paints because it frees her and makes her eyes happy.Juanita is a native of Colorado, born on Boulder St. in Denver. Currently she resides in Wheat Ridge, CO with her husband Chris Pacheco. She earned her BA in Communication/Psychology and a Masters of Special Studies in Applied Communication. After working in Higher Education for 30 years in numerous administrative positions she retired to begin exploring her more artistic side.In 2011, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Had a double mastectomy then underwent chemo for almost a year. Juanita was limited on what she was able to do. So she decided to turn a negative into a positive and decided to use her time painting as much as possible.
Now she spends between 4-6 hours a day in her studio. Cancer is in remission and she is doing well.Even though she is new to the art world she is being noticed and is displaying her work in a few galleries and other locations in Colorado.

Alex Hinst
Alex Hinst is a Denver area fine artist and interior decorator. Having studied with David Mesplé and the late John Fudge, she's been schooled in realism, but her distinctive trademark is intense and vibrant color. "I see color as a vibration. When you put the right colors together, in the right combination, they sing."
Her preferred mediums are watercolor and acrylics, always mindful of how a painting will interact with an interior. "People buy art for one of two reasons: It either goes with their sofa, or it speaks to their soul."
Alex is a member of the Wheat Ridge Art League and the Colorado Watercolor Society.

Julie Midyett
Julie Midyett lives in Golden and started painting in oil 6 years ago. She is a student under Marianne Billingsley and the late master painter Frank Cavino. She has also taken many classes and workshops at the Art Student League of Denver. Her favorite medium is oil and enjoys realism. Despite her favorites, she challenges herself to experiment in other mediums and painting styles as well. Julie has a B.S. degree in Clinical Nutrition and has had careers in accounting, tax preparation, real estate and managing rental properties. Her hobbies include painting, drawing, running and investing. She has been a member and teacher for Better Investing, for over 20 years. This is a nonprofit organization which teaches people to invest in the stock market. She is also a member of the Women's Investment Team of Denver. To balance such a heavy influence of finances and taxes, she decided to rediscover her artistic talents she had put on-hold as a young adult. By embracing this old passion, it has resurfaced in full force. And yet, Julie's love of science and mathematics is satisfied by studying the old masters. She remains in awe of these individuals as she continues to learn just how complex each work of art is, and the discipline required to create each one. She is currently the treasurer for the Wheat Ridge Art League, and member of Art Student League of Denver, Denver Art Museum, and the Denver Botanic Gardens. |

For twenty five years, Kiki has been painting and studying the art and techniques of water colors, which is far and away of her favorite medium.

Being a member of Wheat Ridge Art League and Mountainside Art Guild have been rewarding and informative for her.
She has been taking art classes in watercolor from a variety of instructors in the area for most of this time. Painting is relaxing and continues to be a wonderful learning experience for Kiki.

Shirley Nakamoto
Shirley is originally from Hawaii, but has lived in Colorado since 1971 and loves the change of seasons, mountain scenery and gorgeous wild flowers.
As a former Medical Technologist, she has found her art work was a welcome relief from the stress of the hospital scene.
Though devoted to watercolor, she also enjoys drawing and all other media, and while her style tends toward realism, her goal is to "loosen up".
After retiring, her travels with her husband and 2 dogs in their RV has brought opportunities for AMAZING photographs !
Without any formal art classes in school or college, she has attended many demos and workshops presented in the Denver area and recently attended a fun and inspirational 4-day workshop with Arizona artist Betty Carr in Cedar City , Utah.
While open to all new techniques, she believes it is important to occasionally "get back to the basics".
A long time member of the Wheat Ridge Art League, Shirley has served as program co-chairman for several years in the 90's and then again for the past 4-5 years. She also finds herself serving as the "unofficial photographer" and submits articles of the demos and workshops to the newsletter and website.
She is also a member of the Arvada Fine Art Guild and has her work showing at the Arvada Methodist Church, Infinitus Pizza, Wheat Ridge Active Adult Center, Eggshell Restaurant, and has received awards for entries in the Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival and Echter's Greenhouse Holiday Shows.

Paula Weisz
A Denver area natural artist, Paula is primarily self-taught but is privileged to have had in-depth instruction from working artists: Loraine Miller at Lakewood Arts Council (LAC); Yvonne Stark and, Michael Gadlin at the Art Students League of Denver. Her art has been shown at area galleries and local venues receiving accolades including, a 1st Place award in the LAC’s juried show “Vision in Abstract” for Zen Garden.
Paula’s craving to create was interrupted with the analytical work-a-day world of the securities industry. Now retired from the federal government with a renewed “ache to make,” she prefers acrylics when painting, but also explores a myriad of other mediums. Drawn to the abstract, whether it be interpreted realism or full-blown non-representational, her paintings are intuitive and organic. She believes the creation and response to abstraction is emotional since its interpretation is derived from our own unique experiences. Along with the WRAL, Paula is also a member of the Arvada Fine Arts Guild, Lakewood Arts Council, and the Foothills Art Center. Mary Ellen Young
I have been painting since I was seven years old. I can't remember a time throughout my school years when I wasn't in an art class. I received some of my talent from my Dad, who used to draw and make creative things. His inspiration and ability to envision a project, then make it happen, has inspired the same "vision" painting that I currently convey in my artwork.
I was given private lessons from a wonderful oil painter named Loretta Newman. Her eye for detail helped me to look at a picture and notice the depth and layers of color that make a realistic painting. I received a certificate of completion from the Colorado Institute of Art in an Air Brush Class. I attended the Faux Finish Institute, and learned to use color to create texture and movement on an otherwise plain surface.
My love of animals has led me into painting them. The eyes of any animal can truly show you their personality, loyalty and the love that they show us every day.
I hope that I am able to transmit those caring animal feelings in every painting.
You can see more of my work at my website.
